Details of 80W wireless charging given by Xiaomi

Xiaomi has raised the hand a little further in the charging wars by announcing that it is working on 80W wireless charging technology. According to the information provided by the company, with this technology, a 4000 mAh battery will reach a 50 percent charge within 8 minutes. A battery full charge will take 19 minutes. Xiaomi showcased its new charging technology with a modified version of the Mi 10 Pro.

Xiaomi already has the quickest wireless charging on a shipping phone; the Mi 10 Ultra has 50W wireless technology that can fully charge its 4,500mAh battery in 40 minutes. Oppo recently announced a 65W wireless charging solution that is said to be able to charge a 4,000mAh battery in 30 minutes, but the tech is yet to ship in a commercial device.

Fast wireless charging is much less popular outside China, where companies like Huawei and Xiaomi have been working to defeat each other for a while. The fastest wireless option that’s widely available in the West is the OnePlus 8 Pro, which has an optional 30W wireless charger. Apple’s new MagSafe chargers for the iPhone 12 series charge at up to 15W.

Xiaomi hasn’t announced when a phone with 80W wireless charging will ship, but it shouldn’t be too far off. The company has consistently released phones with ever-higher wireless charging specification over the past couple of years, with the Mi 10 Ultra only coming out a couple of months ago.

Xiaomi recently introduced Mi 10 Ultra, the world’s first smartphone equipped with 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, to the global market.

Regarding the development of fast charging, this innovation looks superior in Chinese cellphone manufacturers, it has not happened to other manufacturers in the world, such as in the west, the OnePlus 8 Pro only has a 30W wireless charger, this is optional, then Apple for the iPhone 12 only has 15W charging.

As information, Xiaomi first introduced fast charging technology when it released the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in 2018 which at that time only supported 7.5W fast charging. Then Mi Mix 3, Xiaomi managed to raise the fast charging level to 10W and in 2019 officially introduced 20W fast charging on the Mi 9.
